The history of “PATCHOULI” begins very long ago, in medieval France where it represented a very heavy and particularly intense scent. It got a bad name as the nobles used it in large quantities to cover up their stench, eventually causing the opposite end result, smelling very bad and strong.

One of the most misunderstood aromatic substances in the world of perfumery is patchouli. The name of this Indian aromatic has been associated with heavy unpleasant odors due to its history, although it is actually a common aromatic ingredient found in many popular perfumes. The turning point for this misunderstood plant came in the 1960s and 1970s when hippies, especially those of the Hare Krishna movement, began wearing it in very large quantities, usually using cheap imitations of the vegetable oil. This is the reason that the perfume became synonymous with something very heavy and unpleasant, as a result of which this bad reputation accompanies it to this day!
